Overall Winner Scholarships

Overall winners of the 44 State Rally literary events (top scorers regardless of division) will be eligible to claim $500 cash scholarships that can be used at any accredited Louisiana-based college or university, public or private. Scholarships are not awarded to winners in the Performance Events (Drama, Music, and Speech) or Open Foreign Language Events (French, German, Latin, and Spanish).

Overall Winner Policy Guidelines

Rally scholarships are disbursed to Louisiana colleges and universities during the spring semester or quarter. Students may claim their scholarship from their host institution at the end of the add/drop period each semester or quarter.

Scholarship Amount

• $500, all to be awarded during the first spring semester or spring quarter in which they enroll
• If a student is a recipient of multiple State Rally scholarships, the recipient will collect the sum of all scholarships during the first spring semester or spring quarter in which they enroll.  A student may not receive the scholarship more than once for winning the same event.

Eligibility

• Scholarship recipients must enroll as a first time, full-time student for a regular semester or quarter at an accredited institution (public or private) of higher learning within the State of Louisiana within one year following the date of high school graduation

Policy

• In order to claim the scholarship award, the recipient must submit the Overall Winner Scholarship Verification Form to the LHSRA Office during the first spring semester or spring quarter in which the recipient enrolls.
• The verification form must include proof of enrollment from the scholarship recipient’s host institution.
• The verification form must be postmarked, faxed, or emailed to the LHSRA Office no later than April 1st during the first spring semester or quarter in which the student enrolls. If the LHSRA Office does not receive the verification form by April 1st, the student forfeits the entire awarded scholarship amount.

Appeals

• If unusual circumstances prevent initial enrollment during the one-year period, a student may apply for a time extension to the Scholarship Committee of the LHSRA.
• If unusual circumstances prevent submission of the State Rally Overall Winner Scholarship Verification Form by the April 1st deadline, a student may apply for a time extension to the Scholarship Committee of the LHSRA.

Overall Winner Process for Claiming Scholarship

1. Complete the Overall Winner Scholarship Verification Form. Note: the verification form must include proof of enrollment from the scholarship recipient’s host institution.
2. Submit to LHSRA by April 1st during the first semester or quarter in which the student enrolls in a Louisiana university.
3. The LHSRA Executive Committee will certify the list of overall winners by April 15th.
4. Scholarship checks will be signed by LHSRA’s Executive Director on April 15th. Checks will be made out to the Bursar at recipient’s host instution with a memo regarding policy of how to disburse to overall winner recipient.
